Before visiting any of the Independence sites, stop at the ticket office, 223 N. Main, Independence, Mo., (816) 254-2720.

Harry S. Truman National Historic Site, 223 N. Delaware St., Independence, (816) 254-2720. The family home of Bess Wallace Truman was used as the summer White House during the Truman administration. Furnishings are the way they were at the time the Trumans lived in the home. Admittance fee.

The Truman Farm Home, 12301 Blue Ridge Blvd., Grandview, Mo., (816) 761-8972. Farm home where Truman lived from 1906-1917. Admittance fee.

Truman Library and Museum, U.S. Highway 24 at Delaware, Independence, (816) 833-1400. Fifty years of papers and memorabilia focusing on Truman’s political and family life. Collection of gifts received during his presidency, his piano used while in Washington and a custom-built Lincoln limousine are displayed here. A replica of Truman’s Oval Office is recently refurbished, and the White House Gallery is new. Thomas Hart Bent’s mural, “Independence and the Opening of the West” is here. The graves of Harry and Bess are outside the library. Admittance fee.
